My First Ever Commission (woop!)

Heya peeps, how's it goin'? So I could talk about how long its been since last I posted yada yada yada but that's boring, so let's just get straight to it.

A few months ago I was asked to produce a new logo design for a university's LGBT group, and well, I'll be honest, I wasn't entirely sure whether it was something I'd be interested in. I've kinda always thought doing commissions would mean having to do drawings of things you don't really want to do - I guess that does happen sometimes.

Luckily for me my client wanted me to come up with a new character to act almost as a mascot for the group, and being the sort of person who loves coming up with new characters this is what interested me enough to wanna take part. Though my client decided on a few 'ingredients' to the overall appearance, I was adamant that I didn't want to follow too many stereotypes of gay men, and yet at the same time I knew it was important to reflect what the group was all about.
So I came up with Russ!! Though I know there could be a few improvements I'm overally pretty happy with the way he turned out, and can see a lot of potential for the guy. Let me know what y'all think though, good or bad :D

Oh, and if anyone else fancies me doing a commission for them then please feel free to message me on my MySpace page, or send me an e-mail at white_wabbit@hotmail.com with 'Commission' as the subject. I'm not saying I'll be happy to do anything because I know I won't haha, but I can guarantee I'll consider any suggestions and reply to all!! Don't be afraid to ask, that's all I'm saying.

xx

P.s. I truly am sorry about how crap I am at posting, I will say that I have very little motivation these days for various reasons I won't go into. I'm hoping it's gonna pick up a bit though :)

Outstanding work, Wabbit. As always, I am impressed with your linework and anatomy but what really stands out here is (of course) the colour! You did a great job of incorporating the entire spectrum without making the piece look garish.

I'm impressed because it is something I struggle with in my own work. I feel that when I make something too colourful, it throws off the balance-- so I try to keep my palettes limited. But lil' Russ here has inspired me to be a little more adventurous with color!

By the way, LUV the happy trail. That is truly one of the sexiest things on a man.

Russ is really cute. In general, I like color to have a "purpose." And I really like the colors in this. Also, Russ seems like a fun guy: if I was in the LGBT group, I'd be thrilled to have him as my mascot.

Thanks for sharing him with us!

Hi lil'Wabbit,
Hi & Woaw! The artwork is a B.U.T. jc is right about the colours & the happy trail!
I also love his mischievous grin, I can almost hear Russ whisper "I'm up to no good" to the 'marauders map' (yes I'm a fan of Harry Potter, so screw me, er I mean sue me or whatever ;°P)
Would you ever consider & draw us his story? Russ' story, of course!

Hey you beautiful wonderful humans, you! Thanks for your nice words about Russ :D (He's very flattered).

JC I love your comments, they always encourage me. I like to think I have a good grasp of colour, I suppose it's quite important to me. Bright colour too, because bright colours are happy colours haha. For this commission though, I thought lots of colour was especially important as it had to grab attention and reflect the colourful world of the gays lol. Glad you like Russ' happy trail, by the look on his face you know lots of people have 'enjoyed' it too hehe. You'll be pleased to know that an exposed tummy is a TM of Russ so you'll never be disappointed XD

Very glad you like the colours too, Jessica, and I guess its the ones he's wearing that reflect his fun personality. He's an adventurous guy, confident, happy, - I hope it shows lol.

Can't say I read past Prisoner of Azkaban, Joseph, and even that was years ago so I've no idea what you're on about lol. Glad you like Russ, I think I have a fair idea of what you imagine this 'mischief' to be hehe. I'm intrigued what you mean by 'his story' though; I definately plan on doing more images of Russ, so explain what you mean a bit better and I might well be interested :P

What sort of guy do you reckon he goes for? I would do a poll except it would only show how few people actually look at my blog lol

Hey Wabbit...

I LOVE RUSS! You did an amazing job with him -- the colors, the look and the pose -- he's PERFECT! So cute and sexy! It's also really wonderful to see you posting again. I miss your stuff! :)

I hope you are doing well and look forward to more of your artwork popping up here.

And by the way, I am really glad you decided to post your illustration of Cam and Lanor. I always thought you did a terrific job of them on this pic and it's wonderful that you are sharing it with your fans!

Take care, my friend!
Much love,
Patrick!
